Just a few days ago we spotted Mike Alessi cruising around the Piru motocross track on a yet-to-be identified KTM. Rumors swirling around about this bike are many, but unfortunately we're unable to confirm anything at this point. Serendipitously, a press release hits the inbox this morning confirming the launch of a "New Motocross Generation in Milan." We're pretty sure that there's a link between the two, but we want you to decide.

See the press release below, and leave a comment about what you think the guy's in Austria have up their collective orange sleeves.

KTM has chosen EICMA (November 10-15, 2009), the world's largest Motorcycle Fair, as the perfect stage to unveil what the future of Motocross looks like for KTM!

The world's first unveiling of a completely new motocross model at the KTM exhibit booth on November 10, 2009 (Hall 18, stand M68), represents a significant step toward "defining new lines." The revealing of the new motorcycle is the next logical step for the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer as its tradition as a result based operation have led to over 160 World Championships and the development of a new motocross model.

KTM takes great pride in the results gathered during international competition in 2009. The MX2 World champion Marvin Musquin, the runner up MX1 World Champion Max Nagel, and of course, the female Motocross World Champion Steffi Laier, have all contributed to, and benefited from the clear and consequent development at KTM.

It is with racing, where the vision of the KTM developers begins. The racing pedigree and ongoing development is key to "defining new lines." There is one man whom this new motocross generation centers on: The Motocross-legend, multiple World Champion and KTM Factory Motocross Team Boss, Stefan Everts!

I don't think they'll be announcing linkage this year. Plus, we're talking about 2010, not 2011.

Beta max vs. VHS, right side up forks vs. upside down, no-link rear suspension vs. linkage. Well, just like Jeremy McGrath killed the right side up forks when he went to Suzuki (those huge right side up forks were awesome and the way forks should be), Stefan Everts is going to kill the no-link rear suspension. The concept has never been the issue, but getting the geometry right (how long did it take linkages to be "right" and how many are still messed up?) along with the spring rates and damping has. Now that KTM has 11 years of development and it is pretty sweet (always has been in the woods), the 2011 is going to go to linkage. Thanks Stefan and KTM for being a follower and doing the wrong thing.
